Are you a pet lover?
Beyond the shadow of a doubt!
I can tell you that my cats and dogs are as much of a family member as my sisters. I’m telling you that because I know their love for me is unconditional. And, I know that’s what most people think of their relationship with their pets. You love that they will never judge you or never just walk out of your life without any explanation or warning. They will love you even if you are rich or poor, black or white, fat or thin. Animals don’t judge us the way humans do and that’s why we love them.
Now, as a Christian, I often ponder on some Biblical scriptures that remind me that my furred friends are also the beautiful creatures of God.
From Genesis 2: 18-20:
“The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.”19 Now the Lord God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.”
From Genesis 1:26:
“Then God said, “Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals,[a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground.”
From Genesis 1:29-30:
“Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. 30 And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.” And it was so.”
From Proverbs 12: 10:
“The righteous care for the needs of their animals, but the kindest acts of the wicked are cruel.”
From Genesis 9:2-3:
“The fear and dread of you will fall on all the beasts of the earth, and on all the birds in the sky, on every creature that moves along the ground, and on all the fish in the sea; they are given into your hands. 3 Everything that lives and moves about will be food for you. Just as I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.”
From Psalm 8: 6-9:
“You made them rulers over the works of your hands; you put everything under their feet: 7 all flocks and herds, and the animals of the wild, 8 the birds in the sky, and the fish in the sea, all that swim the paths of the seas. 9 LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth!”
From Job 12: 7-10:
“But ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; 8 or speak to the earth, and it will teach you, or let the fish in the sea inform you. 9 Which of all these does not know that the hand of the LORD has done this? 10 In his hand is the life of every creature and the breath of all mankind.”
From Ecclesaistes 3: 18-21:
“I also said to myself, “As for humans, God tests them so that they may see that they are like the animals. 19 Surely the fate of human beings is like that of the animals; the same fate awaits them both: As one dies, so dies the other. All have the same breath ; humans have no advantage over animals.”
